A Peek into the Brand: Joy from Addie and Frankie Handmade

Addie and Frankie Handmade

A peek into the brand

Joy and Michelle are the makers and owners of Addie and Frankie Handmade.  They are two mamas, full time nurses, and friends.  They started Addie and Frankie Handmade to create quality pieces that are unique and timeless. Today, Joy gave us a little peek into their lives and upcoming clothing line.

The little ones behind the name

Gianna: So you’re opening a shop.  I’m sure that’s very exciting! What inspired you to go for it?

Joy: Exciting is an understatement.  It is like giving birth to another child.  As for the inspiration, I think the name of our shop gives that away.  The shop is inspired by Addie and Frankie.

G:  How sweet! Are Addie and Frankie your children?

J:  Actually, no.  Addie is my friend Michelle’s daughter.  Michelle and I met in nursing school and we’ve been friends since then.  After graduation, they moved into our neighborhood, and it so happened that we got pregnant months apart.

G: That’s the dream!  Being a new mom can feel so lonely at times.  You two were able to walk through a huge change in your life with your good friend!  Are Addie and Frankie friends too?

J:  Oh they are BFFs.  They’re like sisters for sure.  They have play dates, library dates, and yogurt dates on a regular basis.  Michelle is a new mom in the traditional sense.  On the other hand, I have a 12 year old son.  Frankie is my youngest at 17 months.  So I’m kinda being a new mom all over again.  It is a whole new experience having a girl.

G:  I can see how 12 years and a different gender would be a whole new ballpark! Since Addie and Frankie are BFFs and your inspiration for the shop, would you say your brand is centered around those slow but sweet moments between little friends?

J:  Absolutely!  Seeing them do pretty much everything together was what ignited the idea.

What’s coming in the Fall 2018 launch

“We want to create something that could be kept in a treasure box.  That’s why we tend to gravitate towards timeless pieces.”

G:  We all want to know what’s coming! Can we expect some color coordinating outfits we can match our littles in?  What can you let us know about the upcoming opening?

J:  Since Mitch and I were all new to this, we actually didn’t know where this collection was headed.  All we knew was our color schemes.  We decided on pink, cream, and grey.  Before we knew it, we were both headed to a local quilt fabric store and loading out bags with fabrics for the collection.  That’s when we decided what design would be fitting for each fabric.  As far as coordinating, you can definitely see a lot of those with the upcoming collection.

G:  Tell us a bit about the design process

J:  Our designs revolve around which fabric and color we choose.  We also take into consideration what season we are creating for.  We want to create something that could be kept in a treasure box.  That’s why we tend to gravitate towards timeless pieces.

About opening day

G:  September 8th is my birthday and your opening! It can’t get better for me!  All joking aside, what are your expectations for your first release?  What are you hoping for?

“We know there are great makers out there, but, at the same time, hopefully people can see and appreciate all the hard work we put into each piece.”

J: Advanced happy birthday!

G: Thank you!

J: To be honest, we’re kinds keeping our expectation low.  We know there are great makers out there, but, at the same time, hopefully people can see and appreciate all the hard work we put into each piece.  Michelle and I were joking that if we make at least one sale, then everything is worth it.

G: I’m sure you’ll have much more than one sale!  We need to know, what’s your favorite piece releasing this Saturday?

J:  Our cream linen dress is dreamy.  I think it is so versatile yet so stylish.  I might be biased, but I think it can be worn for many different occasions.

G: I love having those pieces that you can use over and over. I know I am impatiently waiting for it!

Final thoughts

Thank you to Joy for taking the time to chat with us! I hope you enjoyed our interview with Joy as much as we did. Addie and Frankie Handmade opens Saturday September 8, 2018 at 5pm Eastern Time.  I love that these pieces are made by friends and inspired by friends.  Joy and Michelle put their hearts into creating timeless and quality pieces for both their little ones and our little ones.  We love supporting makers who truly love what they do.
